The 2nd Symposium on Synthesis of Two-dimensional Layered Materials
Abstract
The Second 2-dimensional Electronic Materials Symposium, held in conjunction with 20th American Conference on Crystal Growth and Epitaxy (ACCGE-20) and the 17th U.S. Biennial Workshop on Organometallic Vapor Phase Epitaxy (OMVPE-17) took place at Big Sky, MT from August 3-5, 2015. All the Symposium sessions were in the morning and/or the afternoon. All speakers except one showed up for the Symposium. Two invited speakers sent substitutes to give their presentations due to personal issues preventing their attendance, one invited speaker was unable to attend and send a substitute due to an unanticipated medical situation. The topics covered the synthesis of two-dimensional materials such as graphene, boron nitride, metal dichalcogenides, and phosphorene. The presentations were of excellent quality and very well received by the audience. Some audience members provided unsolicited comments to the organizers on the high quality of the presentations. Discussions amongst participants took place during session breaks and also at other times. In addition, many participants expressed interest in continuing this Symposium theme in the near future. The Symposium support was used to defer registration costs for the invited speakers and subsidize audio-visual equipment rental requirements. It is anticipated that the Symposium will be organized again in 2019.
