XXIV International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) 2015
Abstract
XXIV International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) 2015 (abstract) Sociedad Mexicana de Materiales (SMM) and the Materials Research Society (MRS) worked together to organize the XXIV International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) in Cancœn, Mexico, which was held in August 16Ð20, 2015. The Meeting Chairs were Patrizia Calaminici (Chemistry Department, Cinvestav, MŽxico), Lioudmila Fomina (Materials Research Institute, UNAM, MŽxico), Manuel Quevedo, (Department of MS&E, The University of Texas at Dallas, USA); and Ernesto Joselevich, Department of Materials and Interfaces, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel). The Congress featured 36 symposia covering nanoscience and nanotechnology, bio and bioinspired materials, materials for energy, fundamental materials science, materials characterization, materials for specific applications, and magnetic and electronic materials. Among them were included NANOMXCN: Mexico-China workshop on Nanomaterials, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology: Renewable energy and water remediation, the 6th Latin American Conference on Metastable and Nanostructured Materials, and SAMPE-SMM 2015 Special topics on Aeronautical and Aerospace Processes. Materials and Industrial Applications The congress also included 6 plenary session and 9 tutorial courses. Student Chapters from SMM were very active during this Congress with the organization of specific activities to know each other and developed ways of working together. The number of registered participants was 1851 from 51 different countries, including 1228 participants from MŽxico, 200 participants from the USA, 52 participants from Brazil, 49 participants from Colombia, and 36 participants from Germany. In total, there were more than 2800 oral and poster presentations. Student participation in oral presentations was rewarded with 3 prizes in each of the three days in which poster sessions were held. Plenary speakers were Prof. ZHONG LIN WANG, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA (NANOGENERATORS AS NEW ENERGY TECHNOLOGY AND PIEZOTRONICS FOR SMART SYSTEMS); Prof. LUIS ECHEGOYEN, University of Texas at El Paso, USA (FULLERENES AS ACCEPTORS IN OPV DEVICES: REGIOSELECTIVE BIS-ADDITIONS TO EMPTY AND ENDOHEDRAL CLUSTERFULLERENES); Dr. LUIGI COLOMBO, Texas Instruments Incorporated, USA (2D MATERIALS GROWTH: PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES); Prof. TERI W. ODOM, Northwestern University, USA (ENHANCED LIGHT-MATTER INTERACTIONS IN NANOPARTICLE ARRAYS); Prof. ZENJI HORITA, Kyushu University, Japan (DEVELOPING HIGH-PERFORMANCE STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL MATERIALS USING SEVERE PLASTIC DEFORMATION UNDER HIGH PRESSURE); Prof. Luis A. Orozco, University of Maryland, USA (FROM IMAGINARY EXPERIMENTS TO QUANTUM INFORMATION). He presented some facts regarding the world of quantum mechanics and the second revolution that is Happening with its application to quantum computing and optical nanofibers.
