Superconducting quantum critical points in topological half-Heusler compounds

Abstract

The purpose of the proposed research Is to discover the relationship between superconductivity and topologically non-trivial band structure In half-Heusler compounds and to explore the potential for tuning between trivial and non-trivial topological band structures. The identification of promising half-Heusler compounds will be based on electronic structure calculations existing In the literature and new calculations by collaborators. High quality single crystal samples wil1 be synthesized by standard methods and purity and crystallinlty will be characterized by energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. Extensive characterlzlatlon of electronic and magnetic properties of the samples wlll be conducted; many being accomplished in concert with well established collaborators.
