Support for the Armor Ceramics symposium at the 40th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites.

Abstract

Tue technical objective of the proposed effort is to support an annual forum for the presentation and discussion of unclassified information and ideas pertaining to the development aud incorporation of ceramic materials for armor applications. The proposal requests support for the Anuor Ceramics Symposium, to be held as part of the American Ceramics Society s 40th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics aud Composires. Holding this fomm in conjunction with the American Ceramic Society s annual conference is intended to maximize the benefit and participation of the meeting. This annual symposimu has become the premiere venue for the discussion of advancements in armor ceramics and composites, and includes invited presentations from international experts and emerging new research areas. Specific copies to be covered at the 2016 symposiwn include: ballistic behavior, synthesis and processing, materials characterization, quasi-static and dynamic behavior, materials and process modeling, and bonding of materials. In addition, the 2016 symposmm plans to have special focused topics on boron-based ceramics. small-scale mechanical characterization, and glass materials (including the effects of processing, stress , and deformation on the structure). Papers from the Armor Ceramics Symposium will also be published in Advances in Ceramic Armor XI, Ceramic Engineeriug and Science Proceedings, Volume 37. Issue 5, 2016.
