Combat Feeding Research and Engineering Program - Warfighter Ketone Ester Supplementation - Collaborators Meeting

Abstract

Ketone ester (KE) supplementation is an entirely novel strategy for Warfighter performance optimization. The purpose of proposed trip was to have technical discussions with CFD at Natick regarding the continuation of DARPA-funded KE supplementation in human studies. One of the Combat Feeding Directorate (CFD) Performance Nutrition Team s goals is to optimize Warfighter physiological and cognitive function during military operations through targeted nutritional intervention strategies. DARPA originally funded the KE supplementation research and it is now paramount to translate it. We aimed to come to a consensus among subject matter experts (CFD and ourselves) on the types of in-laboratory and field studies that would be of greatest relevance to the Warfighter. Additionally, we determined the types of operational scenarios in which KE supplementation may elicit the greatest positive impact on physical performance optimization and recovery.
