2016 Biointerface Science Gordon Research Conference and Gordon Research Seminar ARO Topical Area: Biochemistry Program, Life Sciences Division
Abstract
The Objectives in assembling this conference are to: (I) Create a strong scientific program focused on Active, Adaptive, and Responsive Biointerfaces: Natural and Engineered, which reflects both the diversity of the disciplines, including biochemistry, bioengineering, biophysics, materials science and nanomedicine, represented by Biointerface science. (2) Bring together a diverse group of speakers, including junior investigators and thought-leaders, as well as students and post-doctoral researchers. (3) Promote cross-disciplinary fertilization of new ideas in Biointerface Science toward building a unified scientific understanding of the roles of interface in biology, developing new biomaterials, and exploring new applications. ( 4) Create a sense of community by promoting interaction between young scientists, underrepresented minority scientists, and junior faculty with prominent senior investigators in the field. The 2016 Gordon Research Conference on Biointerface Science will be held June 11-17, 2016 in Les Diablerets, Switzerland. The GRC on Biointerface Science is dedicated to promoting in-depth discussions and the unencumbered exchange of ideas in all fundamental and applied aspects of the most recent advances concerned with natural and engineered interfaces involving biomolecules and their assemblies. The 2016 GRC on Biointerface Science will explore Active, Adaptive and Responsive Biointerfaces across natural and engineered biomaterial systems. The conference will adopt the traditional GRC format, allowing roughly one-third discussion time immediately following individual presentations and offers additional discussion time at the end of each session. Although this reduces the number of invited speakers, this format emphasizes discussion of unpublished data, challenging of existing doctrines and paradigms, and gives younger investigators ample time to warm-up" to ask a question s/he may not ordinarily ask. Furthermore, the associated Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) on Biointerface Science is a unique forum for graduate students, postdocs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.
