Acquisition of a MPMS EverCool System for Characterization of Nanoscale Magnets

Abstract

Characterization of the nanocomposite magnet samples by a MPMS is a key step in understanding the fundamental magnetism. However, ordinary MPMS consumes a large amount of liquid helium (~20 litters/day). Price of liquid helium has been soaring in the past years (triple higher). Under such circumstance, we propose to acquire a Quantum Design MPMS system for cryogen-free operation. The vendor has agreed to provide this system to the University of Texas at Arlington at reduced price for academic institutions which will benefit our future research effort.
