Research Area 4.1 Nano- and Bio-Electronics: Lester Eastman Conference on High-Performance Devices
Abstract
Support is requested from NSF, ONR, AFOSR and ARO for the Lester Eastman Conference on High-Performance Devices, which will be mainly used to pay for the registration fees of student participants of the conference. The conference will be held on the campus of Lehigh University August 2-4, 2016. The conference is technically co-sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the worldÕs largest professional society. This biennial conference was originated in 1967 by Prof. Lester Eastman and was renamed later to honor his pioneering effort in the field of compound-semiconductor devices. The aim of the conference is to bring together leading scientists and engineers from academia, industry, and government who are at the frontiers of electronic device and circuit research and development, and to encourage cross-fertilization of different technologies. The conference provides an intimate, intensive, single-track, and multi-disciplinary environment, which is so unique that equivalent results cannot be obtained at regular meetings of professional societies or other major international conferences. The rapid pace of electronic technology evolution compels a merger of traditionally separated technical areas, including microwave power circuits, low-power digital electronics, optoelectronics, power switching, etc., which collectively have become the foundation of today s electronic technology. Following the conference tradition, a plan is in place to actively recruit and support speakers and other attendees from under-represented groups in science and engineering such as underrepresented minorities, women, and persons with disabilities. As the conference will be cosponsored by NSF, IEEE and Lehigh University, the conference will provide equal access to all registrants regardless of age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, genetic information, marital status, nationality, ethnic origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status. The facilities on the campus of Lehigh University are in compliance with the disability act. If needed, Lehigh UniversityÕs Disability Support Services can be engaged to ensure equal access to the conference. Based on individual need, special arrangement can be made either through the local arrangements chair, Lehigh UniversityÕs Child Care Center, or the conference hotel for child care and other types of family care.
