Workshop proposal for consideration by the Complex Dynamics and Systems Program, ARO -- The Future of Vibration Energy Transfer in Solids and Structures: Needs and Opportunities

Abstract

The objective of this workshop is to identify essential research needs, emergent concepts, and collaborative opportunities in the area of vibration energy transfer in solids and structures. To approach the objective is to gather early-career scientists to formulate novel approaches to the following questions: (1) What is the potential for nonlinearity- and instability-induced and related complex dynamic phenomena to be harnessed for significant performance enhancement and functionality? (2) What are the major roadblocks in fundamental understanding, prediction, quantification, characterization, manufacturing, and description of energy transfer in nonlinear systems? (3) What are the emergent concepts that suggest transformative capabilities?
