Conference: Dynamics Days 2017

Abstract

Funds are requested to partially support Dynamics Days XXXVI, which will be held in Silver Spring, Maryland from January 4-6, 2017 and organized by the Nonlinear Dynamics Research Group at the University of Maryland. This highly interdisciplinary international conference, which has been running in the US for more than 30 years, and focuses on nonlinear dynamical systems and complex systems in physical, biological, and engineered systems. The conference combines discussion of experimental results, theoretical analysis, and mathematical and computer modeling of these systems. The variety of application areas for nonlinear science attracts participants from a broad range of fields. In the last decades, Dynamics Days has established itself as a premier conference for interactions between specialists in different fields and between young and established researchers. The themes of the conference include pattern forming systems, characterization and control of networks, synchronization of nonlinear systems, and the dynamics of living systems. The conference will have ~18 invited speakers, ~18 contributed short presentations (15 minutes), ~20 contributed 5-minute Ignite talks, and two poster sessions. The funds will be used primary to support the travel expenses of invited speakers and offset the travel costs for graduate students and post-docs.
