Almost-Smooth Nonparametric Regression and Pattern Recognition (W911NF-12-R-0011-03; 3.2.2 Statistical Analysis and Methods; d. Bayesian and Non-parametric Statistics)

Abstract

Our research objectives are as follows: Objective 1. Establish and justify procedures for nonparametric estimation of mean response functions, which are almost but not (necessarily) uniformly smooth over their domains, and for their derivatives where they exist. Objective 2. Define and optimize cost-adjusted estimation error in pattern recognition problems that entail almost-smooth regression modeling.
