Quantum Aspects of Roaming Radical Reactions

Abstract

The project aims to provide a fresh perspective, revealed by experiment, on quantum effects in roaming radical reactions. Our objectives are: ¥ To document quantum interference between roaming and non-roaming pathways ¥ To examine the impact of the internal conversion step on the roaming yield and to use this to control the branching to roaming ¥ To tune the roaming threshold relative to the conventional transition state using the Dynamic Stark effect to further modulate and control the roaming yield ¥ To capture roaming in real time using Coulomb explosion imaging.
