Non-Conventional Building Blocks in Conjugated Materials: Innovative Design and New Applications

Abstract

The field of organic semiconducting materials continues to attract intense interest both academically and industrially. One vibrant area of research within this field has been the design, synthesis and incorporation of non-conventional building blocks into conjugated oligomers and polymers. Under the auspices of the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry, this symposium will showcase unusual motifs in conjugated materials that go beyond typical (hetero) aromatic building blocks to achieve novel properties and enable new applications. We envision that the symposium will bring together researchers that are well established in the field of conjugated polymers with others that are active in related disciplines, e.g. organometallic chemists that incorporate heteroatoms into conjugated materials or researchers in bio-related fields that explore medicinal applications. This proposal requests support to offset expenses incurred by invited speakers to the Non- Conventional Building Blocks in Conjugated Materials symposium through the Army Research Officeƕs Conferences and Symposia Grants program. This symposium will be held at the 254th ACS National Meeting and Exposition , August 20th-24th, 2017 in Washington, DC and will consist of invited and contributed talks.
