Theory of Photodetectors in terms of POVMs

Abstract

The goal is to develop a general, platform-independent, theory of photo-detection, that is fully quantum mechanical (having a quantum description of all parts of the photo-detection process) and that will yield the fundamental (as opposed to practical) limits of photo-detection. The theory makes use of the most general theory of quantum measurements in terms of POVMs (Positive- Operator-Valued Measure).
