Workshop on Scientific Inspiration, Creativity and Communication.
Abstract
We propose a one-day workshop to brainstorm ways to train scientific inspiration, creativity, and communication among the next generation of scientists. Current grant submissions to ARO indicate fundamental problems among a number of a trained scientists. Many do not employ hypothesis-making. Others have an over-reliance on using tools rather than asking questions. Moreover, among science trainees there is a large brain drain towards Wall Street. How can we better train and retain scientists, across all stages of their education? This workshop will ask leaders in science communication and research for new ideas regarding these challenges. After the workshop, a video-recorded outreach event will also be held to disseminate the core ideas to the public, and also leading to future interest in this area from program officers from NSF and DoD.
