Integrating Science and Technology for Standards Development
Abstract
The Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO), Inc. shall provide the following activities in support of distributed simulation research, prototyping, and evaluating distributed simulation integration, and developing standards for distributed simulation interoperability. SISO has provided the core international research into distributed simulation technologies, their integration, and the development of standards to support interoperability, composability, and reuse of simulations and simulation components since 1996. SISO has developed the two most commonly used simulation architectures for distributed simulation, the Distributed Interactive Simulation and the High Level Architecture, SISO developed the original Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards for both of these architectures and shall conduct research, shall prototype new technologies, and shall produce revisions of these standards to meet the evolving needs of the United States Department of Defense and the international modeling and simulation (M&S) community. SISO shall continue research and development of standards to improve composability and reuse of M&S components capable to support the diverse requirements of the Acquisition, Analysis, Experimentation, Intelligence, Test and Evaluation, and Training M&S communities. In parallel with M&S research and standards development, SISO shall continue to research and develop tools and systems engineering processes to enable the integration of M&S assets into distributed simulation environments capable of supporting the requirements of the Digital Engineering and Model-based Systems Engineering approaches being proposed for systems development. SISO s current and future research and standards development activities are well suited to meet the goals and requirements of the Army Research Laboratory s Computational Sciences Campaign: Distributed Simulation, Integration, and Interoperability topic.
