Novel Permanent Magnets based on Nanowire Assemblies

Abstract

Building-up of magnetic nanoparticles in ordered ways leads to formation of novel magnets with extraordinary magnetic properties. In this proposal we depict attempts to understand fundamental magnetism of ferromagnetic nanowires and approaches to produce high coercivity by field-directed self-assembly or artificial growth/patterning. The emphasis will be given to the understanding of the proximity effect, the mesoscale magnetic interactions and tunable magnetic anisotropy that are not observed in conventional magnets.
