International Conference on Quantum Communication, Measurement and Computing (QCMC)

Abstract

History: The International Conference on Quantum Communication, Measurement and Computing (QCMC) was established to encourage and bring together scientists and engineers working in the interdisciplinary field of quantum information science and technology. To date, 13 such meetings have been held and the 14th has been scheduled for 12Ð16 MAR 2018 at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. The anticipated attendance is around 400 people. The conference website is http://qcmc18.phys.lsu.edu/home.htm, where previous conference web pages can also be found. Objectives: This year a major focus of the conference was photonic quantum information processing and metrology, with a special session on quantum sensors and quantum noise reduction in gravitational wave detectors. Coincident with the special session was a tour of the LIGO Livingston facility for all attendees. In addition, two invited and contributed talks and posters was announced the International Quantum Communication Award who will give invited lectures as well. The award for outstanding achievements in quantum experimentation, as decided by the QCMC 2018 Award Committee, goes to Prof. Nergis Mavalvala, Prof. David McClelland, and Prof. Roman Schnabel. Professor McClelland and Professor Schnabel each gave a 45-minute award talk on Friday, March 16. The award for outstanding achievements in quantum theory, as decided by the QCMC 2018 Award Committee, went to Prof. Carlton Caves. Professor Caves gave a 50-minute award talk on Friday, March 16. Previous winners may be found here: http://qcmc18.phys.lsu.edu/nominations.html. We had around 200 contributed papers in quantum communications, computing, and measurement. The conference subsidized attendance by students who are presenting posters or helping the running of the conference.
