Proposal for Conference Support: NetSci 2018

Abstract

NetSci 2018 is the twelfth edition of the NetSci International School and Conference on Network Science, the flagship conference of the Network Science Society, which brings together each year the world-leading researchers spanning all areas of network science, including civilian and military interests, to allow the synthesis of the research questions and directions at the frontier of our understanding. Particular emphasis is on enhancing relevance to real-world systems and deepening scientific understanding, as well as on interdisciplinary communication and collaboration. NetSci 2018 consists of three parts. The first two days are dedicated to satellite meetings proposed by the international community of researchers and favoring the emergence of the newest directions in network science, such as brain networks, control of networks, computational social science, machine learning, or the theory of multilayered or temporal networks. During these two days, a ÒschoolÓ moreover features tutorials in network science directed at the young researchers, giving them both introductory courses and a vision of the most advanced topics in network science. The next three days are the main conference events featuring plenary talks from a broad range of the worldÕs leading experts, as well as contributed talks highlighting new discoveries. Substantial amounts of time are also devoted to poster sessions and informal scientific exchange. The main publishers of research in Network Science, such as Cambridge University Press, Springer, Oxford University Press will also be represented. NetSci is the premier conference on Network Science and each year the diversity of topics addressed and the number of participants grows significantly. This year we will host about 20 satellite research meetings and expect at least 600 participants.
