2018 Plasmonics and Nanophotonics: Harvesting, Generating, and Manipulating Light at the Nanoscale GRC/GRS
Abstract
The seventh biennial Gordon Conference on Plasmonics and Nanophotonics will be held at Grand Summit Hotel at Sunday River, ME, from July 8-13, 2018, preceded by a Gordon Research Seminar on Plasmonics and Nanophotonics (GRS, July 7-8, 2018). This seventh plasmonics conference, will focus on recent advances in fundamental and applied plasmonics, Enabling the next generation of applied plasmonic phenomena will require an enhanced focus on the fundamental science of plasmonics in new and exotic regimes. The Conference has invited talks covering a diverse range of topics including quantum mechanical effects, plasmon-induced hot carrier generation, plasmon-enabled chemistry and biotechnology, dielectric nanophotonics, novel sustainable materials, and metasurfaces. The Chemical Sciences Division of the ARO supports fundamental research that advances our knowledge and understanding of molecular sciences for developing future military technology. As a pervasive scientific discipline, chemical science overlaps and interfaces with many branches of science. Plasmonics similarly is a multi disciplinary area where chemistry physics and engineering come together for applications in sensing, characterizing and developing devices that exploit novel physical principles to bring in new capabilities. The GRC Plasmonics and Nanophotonics conference is the premier conference that addresses these topics. The overarching goal of this GRC is to advance the leading edge of plasmonics research by providing a forum where substantial interactions between top researchers and future leaders can stimulate new thinking, facilitate collaborations, and connect minds. As with the previous six GRC Plasmonics conferences we will bring together a diverse, interdisciplinary group of students, young speakers, and senior researchers with training in engineering, chemistry, physics, and biology. A new feature is the late breaking research talks that will allow junior researchers with new results to share their research via shorter talks. Another feature is the short talks picked by a panel from the previous dayÕs poster session. This is a valuable opportunity for graduate students to present in front of their peer group. Evenings will feature the animated poster sessions that are a signature of GRC conferences.
