Enabling Practical Interference Alignment in Real-time Hardware

Abstract

Our goal of this DURIP proposal is to elevate our understanding of practical interference alignment schemes to bring them to a point of validation and implementation in real-world settings. We accomplish this by combining our Pharos mobility platform with a National Instruments FlexRIO software defined radio platform to implement these algorithms in practice. We optimize the algorithms, developed in a theoretical framework, to be implemented with the desired degree of parallelism in practice. We benchmark the practical gains of alignment versus other schemes and quantify the gains due to alignment in practice. Research by the PI in this domain has been funded by multiple federal grants, and the goal of this effort is to obtain the equipment required to enable the realization of alignment in practice.
