Abstract
The main aim of this short term scientific visit (3 weeks) is to facilitate an exchange of information between two research groups interested in the topics of Quantum Networking and in using cold atoms for Quantum Technology applications. The Garraway theory group, (Sussex, UK) is designing loop waveguides for Quantum Technology using microwave fields. Loop wave-guides can also be made using time-dependent radio-frequency fields where microwave pulses are used to effect transfer between Rubidium hyperfine states to make an interferometer. Good design of the pulses is important for accurate applications such as inertial navigation. A careful theory development is needed to describe pulsed microwave systems interacting with atoms in static and modulated radio-frequency fields. Discussions will take place on this topic of the Army Research Laboratory. In addition we will explore the possibilities for a description of Quantum Networking based on the theory of pseudo-modes developed by Garraway. The theory is based on a formulation of qubit dynamics in terms of Òmodes of the universeÓ, which leads to an interpretation in terms of coupled channels with potential leaks of quantum information as described in a recent work on Quantum Darwinism.
