Workshop in Modern Aspects of Quantum Physics

Abstract

Quantum physics presents novel and yet not fully understood effects. Over the I 00 years since its discovery, physicists have analyzed quantum mechanics with increasingly advanced tools. The efforts of several among the biggest and most innovative companies (including Google, IBM, D-Wave ... ) with massive investments in these directions are a signal that society expects that the studies so far developed in academia are about to leave the laboratories and impact every day life, possibly with a technological revolution. This workshop, aiming at discussing the yet open problems and the perspective of quantum physics, continues the tradition of fundamental research in laying the foundations for what will become the technologies of tomorrow. The scope of the workshop is to gather young researchers and experts in new frontiers of quantum and statistical physics with applications in emerging quantum technologies, to share their activities on the forefront of these fields, promote the exchange of ideas, and foster the creation of new collaborations. The spirit of the workshop will contribute to create the ideal scientific scenario, characterized by very strong connections within Western Europe, to boost the development of quantum technologies in parallel to recent efforts in China. To this aim, the workshop will featuress discussion sessions and a poster session, in addition to the invited and contributed presentations: everyone will be given the opportunity to present her/his work, either as an oral or poster presentation, and to participate in the conversation. Topics of the workshop cover, but are not limited to: - non-equilibrium, quenched, driven and open quantum systems - quantum interference, coherence, entanglement, non-local indistinguishability - disordered systems, random matrices - fundamental aspects of quantum physics, their mathematical representation, and experimental advances in all their theoretical and practical implementations.
