2018 Ionic Liquids Gordon Research Conference
Abstract
Interest in ionic liquids has been rapidly growing all over the world since the early foundational work funded by the Department of Defense, in part because of the fascinating set of physical, chemical, and biological property sets these materials possess, and in part from the growing realization of new applications in such key areas as Portable Electrochemical Power; Advanced Devices, Sensors, and Systems; New and Renewable Materials; Biology, Biotechnology; and Efficient and Responsive Industrial Processes (to name a few). The 2018 addition of the Ionic Liquids GRC will involve 33 invited speakers and discussion leaders, with 9 of these from overseas. Lively poster sessions will provide much time for interaction with ionic liquid scientists and engineers from around the world. This GRC will thus provide an opportunity to meet and discuss scientific and technological topics with international experts. Academic and industrial scientists will provide insight into key issues such as scale-up, costs, availability, governmental regulations, and other key parameters needed to plan new ventures. Ionic Liquids lie at the intersection of interdisciplinary sciences, where research areas intercept to create something new, promoting an "out-of-the-box" way of thinking. Participants will thus learn more about the Ionic Liquid state of matter and the growing impact of these fascinating materials on key societal issues.
