XXVII International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) 2018
Abstract
The International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) in its XXVII edition was organized by the Sociedad Mexicana de Materiales (SMM) working in partnership with the Materials Research Society (MRS). This series of meetings organized annually offer an exciting multidisciplinary stage to present new directions in materials research and technology, as well as valuable opportunities to exchange ideas with some of the foremost experts in the field. The IMRC has become a leading conference with international recognition in the field of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), covering a wide range of symposium topics of interest to the materials research community at large, offering simultaneously different activities such as tutorials, plenary lectures, a graduate fair, among others. The XXVII IMRC was held from August 19 to 24, 2018 in Cancun, MŽxico, promoting the interaction of different sectors of the community interested in MSE, including scientists, engineers, students, representatives of industry, public sector and other professional societies from Mexico and other countries. This has allowed the beginning of new collaborations, interaction between students and researchers, tutorials and workshops, scientific state-of-the-art talks, Best Student-Poster Award Contest, academic-industry networking, scientific exchange and advancement in the field of materials, in general. In 2018, the XXVII IMRC received 1710 attendees from 40 different countries, among them, 921 were students. The XXVII program included: 38 symposia (in 6 clusters) and 2 International workshops, with more than 2530 oral and poster presentations, among them 404 invited talks and 695 regular oral contributions; 7 tutorial courses, 5 plenary lectures by well-recognized leaders on their areas, 1 Science, Technology and Society (STS) lecture, 54 commercial stands and booths, an exhibition of academic graduate programs and professional development courses mainly for students. The organization of the Advanced Defense Materials Workshop discussed with US-Army RDECOM in 2017, took place at IMRC 2018 along with a Research Opportunities Session with the collaboration of ONR-G, AFOSR and NSF.
