Student Travel Support for IEEE S&P 2019

Abstract

The IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy is the premier forum for presenting developments in computer security and electronic privacy, and for bringing together researchers and practitioners in the field. The IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy is a topranked conference in the field of security and privacy. The symposium accepts and presents excellent state-of-the-art research work in security and privacy. Topics include but not limit to attacks and defenses, forensics, intrusion detection and prevention, and malware, all of which are closely relate to the research interests of the Army. The goal of this proposal is to encourage applications from US-based graduate students from a wide variety of institutions to attend the symposium and its workshops. The high-quality technical program and various events organized at the Symposium will contribute to help boost the research capability of an attending graduate student, who will learn feedback from the interactive discussions with the research community and be able to actively participate in the discussions with the other speakers and conference attendees. The symposium is also an excellent venue for bringing those in attendance in contact with a new world of potential collaborators and colleagues in the same and related fields. As such, this proposal seeks the support from ARO to sponsor graduate students to attend the symposium and workshops. For each attending student, the amount of support is approximately $1,250 to cover the registration, airfare (economy fare), and hotel (lodging for three nights). We plan to fund approximately 16 students to travel to the symposium and workshops, and the total requested amount is $20,000. The travel grants will enable the participation in the conference by students that would normally find it difficult to attend, and we encourage women students and students from under-represented groups to attend the symposium and workshop.
