Addition of a driver section extension for the UIC High Pressure Single Pulse Shock Tube

Abstract

A stainless steel tubular driver section extension for the existing University of Illinois High Pressure Single Pulse Shock Tube is proposed which will increase the reaction time needed to examine the low temperature chemistry of low cetane number fuels relevant their ignition behavior in Diesel engines, as being studied in a currently supported program by the Army Research Office, (W911NF-16-1-0063). The 5.2 meter extension when added to the 1.51 meter existing driver section will permit reaction times of approximately 40 milliseconds which chemical kinetic modeling indicates will be long enough to observe significant fuel decay and intermediate species formation.
