Reactive Chemical for Environmental Mangagement

Abstract

The U.S. Army is committed to environmental stewardship. A dramatic step in this direction would be modifying existing energetic fills in a manner which provides for end-of-life concerns. One attractive approach is encapsulating a reactant which can be reliably released on demand using an external stimulus (or trigger). Useful property changes of explosives include the reduction in the ability to detonate or alteration of degradation pathways to produce environmentally innocuous species.
