The Attojoule Challenge in Photonics/Optoelectronics: Materials, Devices, Modeling and Architectures

Abstract

We propose a workshop on attojoule photonics/optoelectronics, to be held at Stanford University in the time-frame of December 2018 -January 2019. The workshop will include a selection of external invited speakers as well as speakers from the Stanford University faculty; additional participants from the campus and local area (including Silicon Valley companies) will be welcomed. The workshop will focus on identifying challenges and opportunities for photonic and optoelectronic information processing as we remain within a classical information paradigm but push towards the single-photon regime for signals and logic. Within this scope, specific technical areas will include materials, devices, circuit/network architectures and modeling/simulation/design workflows. Hideo Mabuchi will serve as the chairperson/PI of the workshop.
