ARO Travel Grant Support for ACM WiSec 2019 Conference
Abstract
The 12th ACM Conference on Security and Privacy in Wireless and Mobile Networks (WiSec 2019), will be held from May 15 to May 17, 2019, in Miami, FL, USA. ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery, is the technical sponsor of WiSec and has been providing logistic and economic support for all past conferences. The conference has been held annually since 2008, when the ACM Workshop on Wireless Security (2002-2007), the ACM Workshop on Security of Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks (2003-2007), and the European Workshop on the Security of Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks (2004-2007) were merged into WiSec. It is one of the main forums where researchers and practitioners are free to share and discuss a wide variety of scientific ideas for improving security, privacy, and anonymity of mobile devices and wireless networks. With increased recognition of the importance of security in mobile networks and devices, interest in WiSec has surged in recent years. This proposal requests $10,000 in funding to assist four (4) or more United States (US)-based graduate students to attend WiSec 2019 as well as partially cover the travel expenses of the two keynote speakers. ACM WiSec is one of the leading ACM and SIGSAC conferences dedicated to all aspects of security and privacy in wireless and mobile networks and their applications. In addition to the traditional security topics related to the physical, link, and network layers, the conference welcomes papers focusing on the security and privacy of mobile software platforms, usable security and privacy, cryptography, and the increasingly diverse range of mobile or wireless applications, such as Internet of Things (IoT), and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). The conference welcomes both theoretical as well as empirical contributions. ACM WiSec 2019 has received a good number of submissions, and with an expected 25% acceptance rate, this conference is going to have a high-quality program. Participation in conferences such as ACM WiSec is an extremely important part of graduate students research and career development, providing the opportunity for them to present their own work, attend tutorials and keynote sessions, interact with peers and senior researchers, and expose themselves to leading-edge work in the fields of wireless networks security and mobile privacy. The support requested in this proposal will enable more US-based graduate students to participate in ACM WiSec 2019 than would otherwise be able to attend. The support will also assist in accommodating two keynote speakers to give talks on emerging trends and challenges in wireless and mobile security.
