48th International School & Conference on the Physics of Semi Conductors "Jaszowiec 2019"
Abstract
International School & Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors "Jaszowiec" is an event which brings together prominent experts from a broad field of semiconductor physics. It has been held in South of Poland for nearly fifty years. Over these years the "Jaszowiec" Conference has become an internationally recognized event and is well known in the world community of semiconductor physics. The conference covers the most up-to-date and relevant scientific problems classified as belonging to the semiconductor physics in a very broad sense. During the conference the key scientific problems that could lead to the development of both experimental, theoretical and computational modelling disciplines in semiconductor physics and to emergence of new technologies and applications will be discussed. In particular, relevant to the conference are: spintronics and spin phenomena in semiconductors, nano structure semiconductor quantum dots, quantum wells and nanowires, graphene and carbon nano structures, quantum optics and nanophotonics, topological insulators, electrical, magnetic and optical properties of semiconductor materials, defects and impurities in solids, quantum computing, and synthesis and characterization of semiconductor materials. "Jaszowiec" Conference is the event held in Poland with nearly fifty years of tradition. Over the years, these "Jaszowiec" Conferences have become an important international event and is well known in the world community of semiconductor physics. A 2-day tutorial session (School), addressed mainly to graduate students and young scientists, was established in 1992 and since then precedes the Conference. Every year, the conference brings together prominent experts working both in Poland and foreign research centers (in 2018 from 15 countries) yielding an important contribution to the development of the physics of semiconductor. In the recent years the number of participants of the School and Conference reached ca 230, making "Jaszowiec" the largest conference on the subject held in Central Europe. Thanks to its multinational character the conference enables and stimulates the exchange of experience and networking at national and international levels. The high scientific quality of the conference every year is maintained thanks to the effort of world-class experts from the Advisory and Program Committees. Advisory Committee consists of 11 experts from leading centers for the physics of semiconductors in Europe, North America and Japan. The Program Committee is composed of experts from Polish co-organizing institutions. In an additional to this, to aid the participation for the youngest scientists during the event, a two-day Tutorial Session (School) is organized during the weekend before the Conference. This year 5 two-hour long lectures will be given to provide an introductory overview of the main conference topics. The program of the 48th Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors allows time for 16 invited lectures, of which 70% will be given by international guests, 35 short oral and about 150 poster presentations. The meeting offers a very good opportunity for the transfer of knowledge between excellent scientists participating in Jaszowiec Conference and PhD students, also to a wider group of scientists related to Department of the Navy (DoN) through the conference materials. The atmosphere has always inspired discussions, informal contacts and new scientific acquaintances. The Conference Program and abstracts of all accepted presentations will be printed in a booklet just before the Conference (May/June 2019). The Proceedings will be published in a special issue of Acta Physica Polonica. Official website of the "Jaszowiec 2019" Conference is: http://jaszowiec.edu.pl/
