Autonomy and AI in Cybersecurity

Abstract

Several trends and technical developments relevant to cybersecurity suggest that new approaches to cybersecurity research may be needed. These trends and developments include increasingly capable and motivated attackers, a rapidly expanding attack surface, and the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning as resources for both defenders and attackers. A 1.5-day workshop at Carnegie Mellon University will bring together leading researchers in cybersecurity and AI to discuss how to address these new threats and take advantage of new opportunities. The outcome of the workshop will be a white paper documenting the workshop s findings that can serve as guidance to the cybersecurity research community. Funding is being requested to support travel costs of participants to attend the workshop.
