Pointing and Tracking for Research on Turbulence-Resistant Free-Space Optical Communication and Atmospheric Laser Science

Abstract

We propose to enhance the capability of the Townes Institute Science and Technology Experimentation Facility (TISTEF) by acquiring a laser pointing & tracking capability. This capability will enable advanced research on 1) free-space optical communication systems that are tolerance to atmospheric turbulence and 2) spatiotemporal dynamics of ultra-short and ultra-high power laser pulses.
