Continuous Wave Single-Frequency Mid-IR OPO Laser for Controlled Collisions of Vibrationally Excited Polyatomic Molecules

Abstract

This proposal outlines the need for a continuous wave, single-frequency OPO laser in the mid-infrared. This laser will be used in rapid adiabatic passage (RAP) preparation of molecules in specific quantum states for a series of novel collision experiments. This laser system will support an ARO FY19 MURI project led by PI Suits on Quantum State Controlled Molecular Collision Dynamics. Some of the experiments that will make use of this laser system were outlined in that proposal and are presented here to illustrate the unique capabilities enabled by the RAP excitation technique.
