Acquisition of High Performance Computing and Large Storage Instruments to Enhance Research and Education in Big Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at PVAMU

Abstract

Today s military analysts are faced with the monumental and escalating task of handling massive volumes of di erent types of data from various sources. In order to address this challenge and enhance the research and education in big data science and arti cial intelli- gence (AI) at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU, an HBCU), a multidisciplinary team of researchers from the Center of Excellence in Research and Education for Big Military Data Intelligence (CREDIT) and Center for Computational Systems Biology (CCSB) at PVAMU propose to acquire 1) a Dell EMC Isilon H400 Hybrid NAS Storage System to host large and diverse datasets; and 2) IBM Power System IC922 servers, which provides the compute-intensive and low-latency infrastructure for modern big data analytics and AI. The acquisition and development of the proposed big data computing system will allow us to support many ongoing research projects, create new projects, strengthen and broaden big data and AI research activities at PVAMU, and foster collaborations with DoD Labs and industry. It will help provide students, especially underrepresented minorities, obtaining unique hands-on experience and expertise in the entire range of AI and big data processing techniques, where training of highly skilled workforce is critical to DoD missions.
