Symposium on ÒExploring Novel 3D Nano-Assembly Processes for PhotonicsÓ
Abstract
In the past decade, tremendous progress has been made in photonics, with the advent of new concepts like optical metasurfaces, topological photonics and bound states in the continuum. These concepts enabled novel applications including optical components that control the flow of propagating optical fields using relatively simple planar structures patterned on a flat substrate, unidirectional waveguides that allow light to flow around large imperfections without back-reflection, highly efficient lasers robust to defects and disorder, and simplified sensors based on high quality resonances. At the same time, the past decade witnessed substantial progress in materials processing based on additive manufacturing using 3D printing and nano-assembly. The objective of this symposium is to bring together researchers that develop new materials processing techniques and experts in photonics, to determine what are the enabling opportunities in quantum and classical optics.
