Laser systems for quantum simulations of many-body physics with ultracold atoms
Abstract
This DURIP proposal requests an infrared laser system for our DoD funded research on ultracold dysprosium atoms. The proposed research program includes the realization of new forms of quantum matter including quantum magnetism and synthetic gauge fields, and precision measurements and sensing using narrow transitions in dysprosium. The infrared laser will be used to control and manipulate dysprosium atoms in several ways: optical trapping, transport into a science chamber, and confinement in optical lattices. The laser system will become a central part of our ultracold dysprosium experiment.
