ARO Special Programs: Conference and Symposia Grants (Modern Optics) Support for ATTO VIII: the 8th International Conference on Attosecond Science and Technology

Abstract

The 8th International Conference on Attosecond Science and Technology (ATTO VIII) will be held July 11-15, 2022 at the University of Central Florida. As the largest and most prestigious conference in attosecond physics in the world, ATTO attracts both established researchers and early career scientists and offers a multidisciplinary scope covering various topics in light source technology, extreme ultraviolet and x-ray spectroscopy, molecular dynamics, and solid-state physics. The conference program includes both invited (28) and contributed (52) talks, as well as three poster sessions, for an expected total number of about 250 posters. The conference has a format designed to foster lively scientific discussions that transition seamlessly from sessions to meals to poster sessions. The main objectives of the conference are: i) to outline the state of the art of attosecond research; ii) to jump-start national and international collaborations that have been hindered by the pandemic; iii) to promote recruiting and training of postdocs and tenuretrack candidates; iv) to consolidate the global and diverse identity of the attosecond science community. The purpose of this grant is to cover a fraction of the publication costs of the Conference Proceedings, which will be published as an open-access book with Springer-Nature, and the participation of the invited speakers. These two activities directly contribute to the long-term impact of the conference and, indirectly, to the participation of students, by reducing the cost of their registration.
