Workshop on Cognition and Control at the University of Florida

Abstract

The firstWorkshop on Cognition and Control was launched in February, 2013, approximately one year after the PI joined the University of Florida. Videos of lectures from the inaugural meeting and the four that followed may be found at the YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/ user/cccUF. The fifth meeting was held in January, 2017. Followups were postponed first due to travel conflicts, and then the pandemic. The goal from the start has been to bring together researchers together with diverse backgrounds to discuss topics surrounding Òinformation extractionÓ and decision making in complex systems. The majority of speakers have come from academia, but stars from industry research labs have also participated. For example, in the third year the schedule included Thierry Klein, Alcatel-Lucent and Ana Radovanovic, Google. It is finally time to re-launch the workshop. Inspiration comes from prior success, and current enthusiasm from former speakers and junior faculty at the University of Florida. Format and topics to be covered As in previous years, we anticipate about 15 speakers with a broad range of interests. Foundational research will include topics in information theory, game theory, and control (including reinforcement learning). Applications will likely include robotics, transportation systems, neuroscience and neural stimulation, smart grids, and agriculture.
