97th ACS Colloid & Surface Science Symposium
Abstract
This proposal seeks support for the 97th American Chemical Society Colloid and Surface Science Symposium, which will be held at North Carolina State University from June 4-7, 2023. The Symposium is an annual 3-day national and international conference that brings together approximately 500-700 interdisciplinary researchers from academia and industry from the US and across the globe. They convene to discuss the latest topics in particles and complex fluids, interfacial phenomena and chemistry, biomaterials, soft matter science, and environmental sustainability -- topics that are of high relevance to Army researchers across multiple programs. Sponsorship funds will be used for meeting expenses including but not limited to: student-postdoc travel and registration support to increase the participation and diversity of young investigators, invitation of research leaders in the field as keynote and plenary speakers, support of session chairs/organizers, and other costs associated with venues and organizational logistics. Invited speakers are key to the success of each Symposium, because they attract high quality contributed talks and expose meeting attendees to state-of-the-art advances in colloid and surface science research. Special consideration is given to young rising stars and underrepresented minority researchers in terms of session chairing. The diversity of the speakers and organizers helps maintain a high degree of creativity and innovation alongside well-established work in the field.
