Workshop on Interdisciplinary and Convergent Research Foundations for Cyber Deception
Abstract
Cyber deception has recently emerged as an effective paradigm of security defense to reverse the fundamental advantage of attackers in terms of information and resources. There is a growing research interest in academia, industry, and government. However, there are many research challenges across many fields and disciplines, and convergent solutions are needed to address the fundamental challenges of cyber deception. This grant proposal seeks support for organizing a one-and-a-half-day workshop that will bring together leading and active researchers in the field of cyber deception. The primary objective of the workshop is to facilitate discussions on current research issues, identify challenges, and outline future directions for fundamental research in this area. The workshop will focus on three major clusters: analysis/verification, design methods, and human elements, as well as their intersections. These clusters will be used as a framework for organizing the discussions and presentations during the workshop. The proposed workshop aims to provide a forum for researchers to exchange ideas and share their experiences in the field of cyber deception. It is expected that the outcomes of the workshop will include identifying important research questions, proposing innovative approaches, and building collaborations among researchers in this area. Ultimately, the workshop will contribute to advancing the state of the art in cyber deception and enhancing our ability to defend against cyber-attacks.The workshop is proposed to be held in New York, NY, hosted by New York University (NYU) at its NYU Center for Cybersecurity. A report will be compiled and summarized after the workshop to layout the foundations and challenges in proactive and dynamic network defense.
