SPLAT BAC: a safe, effective and long-lasting larvicide for disease-carrying mosquitoes

Abstract

Deployment in MBD-endemic regions put US military forces at high risk of infection. We seek to lessen these risks by providing deployed warfighters with a modern, safe, long-lasting larvicide that targets mosquitoes vectors of mosquito-vectored diseases in all relevant situations, regardless of species or geography.SPLAT BAC an extremely effective mosquito control tool in the field. Some components attract and induce gravid female mosquitoes to preferentially oviposit on water that has been treated with this formulation. Other components attract the resident mosquito larvae and induce them to voraciously consume the larvicidal formulation. Because SPLAT BAC is long lasting, this novel, green formulation will provide continuous vector control throughout the season with just one or two applications. By closing these gaps in protection, users have a much better chance to effectively manage local mosquito populations, avoiding transmission and the spread of horrific mosquito-vectored diseases like Zika, Dengue, Malaria and West Nile Virus.
