Social Simulation (SocialSim)

Abstract

The Social Simulation (SocialSim) program is developing a computational capability to simulate the spread and evolution of information in the online environment. The global information environment is radically changing how and at what rate information spreads and evolves, and both nation-state and sub-state actors are incorporating messaging into their operations to great advantage. Existing approaches for understanding online information spread and evolution are largely based on specialized exercises that take considerable time to orchestrate and execute, and have limited accuracy. SocialSim aims to enable a deeper and more quantitative understanding of adversaries' messaging campaigns and their likely outcomes, as well as exploration of potential responses.
