HIGH SPEED PROPULSION AND ADVANCED WEAPON TECHNOLOGIES

Abstract

The high speed weapons work in this activity is focused on demonstrating propulsion and vehicle technologies for Mach3+ to Mach8 capable weapons. The solid rocket motor Integrated High Performance Rocket Propulsion Technology (IHPRPT) development activities will provide improved rocket based weapon performance. The rocket technologies apply to both air dominance and strike weapons and will provide both improved range and speed. This work includes technologies associated with high acceleration capable projectile structures, high temperature and high strength materials to enable projectiles to survive high speed launch environment, improved thermal prediction methodologies and test techniques, wide dynamic pressure adaptable projectile controls and non-explosively launched lethal mechanisms. The high speed projectile technologies are intended to support long range Naval Surface Fire Support weapons. FY 2012 to FY 2013 increase is primarily due to increased work to develop a projectile capable of surviving high G/High Temperature environments. FY 2013 to FY 2014 decrease is due to reduced efforts for ship integration.
