Lightweight Polymers for Modern Small Caliber Apps - Ammo Casing Only
Abstract
The Army currently relies on metal for small caliber cartridge casings. Polymer-based casings offer the potential to achieve significant weight reductions that can be applied to future and legacy systems. This effort will mature and prototype lightweight polymers and casing design solutions for use in extreme military operational environments. The polymer-based casings will reduce the tactical weight burden on the warfighter, reduce transit costs, and increase lethality across all operational environments.
