Military Networking Protocol
Abstract
(U) The Military Networking Protocol program seeks to develop networks with full military organizational unit attribution and prioritization. The program will develop an authenticated and trusted version of Transmission Control Protocol/User Datagram Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/UDP/IP). By providing full attribution of every device and tracking each device’s network flows, the system will know who owns each data flow. Based upon this knowledge, Military Networking Protocol will be able to provide a prioritization scheme of up to thirty-two levels. Military Networking Protocol will allow the network infrastructure to provide prioritization levels, reallocate bandwidth between different users or different military units, and automatically make quality of service decisions. Military Networking Protocol traffic will be compatible with existing Internet infrastructure and may allow or deny entry or transit of unauthenticated data and transmit data as fast as (or faster than) existing network protocols. Hardware developed in this program will be self-configuring and will greatly reduce the need for trained network personnel and overall network’s maintenance cost. This program is planned for transition to the military Services.
