Helicopter ALert and Threat Termination (HALTT)

Abstract

The Helicopter ALert and Threat Termination (HALTT) program provided Army and Navy/Marine helicopters with a way to detect small arms and provide shooter location to improve their ability to respond. System effectiveness with emphasis on low false alarm rates is critical. The program goal was to successfully demonstrate protection of helicopters by automatic threat detection of small arms with an "o'clock" accuracy in azimuth as well as elevation and range to shooter.
