Neuroprotection from Brain Injury

Abstract

Building upon technologies discovered under the Restoring Cognitive Capability program (budgeted in PE 0602715E, Project MBT-02), the Neuroprotection from Brain Injury program will transform our defense against traumatic brain injury (TBI), for example as a result of exposure to blast. This program will further develop a mechanistic understanding of early molecular events following injury. Additionally, the program will develop technologies to rapidly deliver prophylactic countermeasures, ultimately preventing severe brain injury. These novel technologies will change the paradigm for treatment of TBI by preventing injury rather than attempting to reverse or repair it.
