AMOS

Abstract

The Arctic Mobile Observing System (AMOS) effort will develop a prototype mobile sensing system that can be deployed anywhere in the Arctic via the development of a sea ice-based buoy node that will enable the critical infrastructure (power, communication, environmental intelligence) to provide the Navy with a persistent Arctic presence at lower cost than manned platforms. AMOS is a mobile observing system of systems node that enables 2-way communications, under-ice vehicle navigation, and extended-duration autonomy in the complex Arctic environment. AMOS will provide a persistent, mobile, autonomous capability to monitor the operational environment and maritime operations of potential adversaries in the Arctic Ocean.
