Drugs to Prevent/Treat Parasitic Diseases (harmful effects on host by an infecting organism)
Abstract
This effort conducts assessments and improves candidate drugs coming from the DoD discovery program and from other collaborations for prevention and treatment of malaria to counter the continuing spread of drug resistance to current drugs. Conducts assessments in animal models of currently available drugs for use against cutaneous leishmaniasis (a skin-based disease transmitted by sand flies). This program selects the most effective and safe candidates for continued development and possible clinical testing.
